Did you know that?

Other brands of catnip sprays appeared on the mass market around the 1990s. Unfortunately, they had a bad reputation for the concept of using liquid catnip on cats at play instead of the well-known messy leaf and flower coverings. Their product did not produce the same reaction in cats as regular catnip, so it was considered a "sloppy" product.

Why? Most other available catnip sprays on the market today are made from catnip extract, not catnip essential oil.

What's the difference? In order to obtain plant extracts, the process involves mashing the plant and then subjecting it to an infusion process in an alcohol (or other similar liquid) solution to obtain the flavor. (This is one of several methods. Cold pressing the plant is another method.)

To obtain the essential oil, the process is more complicated and costly. Catnip essential oil is obtained from the field using steam distillation. This essential oil is very sensitive to temperature changes and direct sunlight. A small amount of the calculated pure catnip essential oil is then mixed with distilled water in each bottle.
